About the Course
Course Content
The course covers the following topics:
- Heat
- Moisture
- Indoor climate
- Energy use in buildings
- Energy sources
- Materials and greenhouse gas emissions
- Zero Emission Buildings
- Circular buildings with focus on wood as building material
Learning Outcome
Upon completing the course, the candidate will:
- Have the necessary knowledge to perform basic heat and moisture calculations on the building envelope
- Be able to perform simulations to calculate a building's energy demand
- Have knowledge of requirements in the technical building regulations related to thermal indoor climate, radon, moisture, and energy
- Have knowledge of greenhouse gas emissions related to material use in buildings
- Have knowledge of zero emission buildings
- Have knowledge of circular thinking for buildings and how wooden structures can be designed for reuse and reduced greenhouse gas emissions
Learning Methods and Activities
The form of learning is essentially lectures, project work, and exercises. If less than 6 students take the course, it will mainly be conducted as guided self-study. For web-students, communication between tutor and student is organized through a digital learning platform, and video recordings will be made accessible through the digital learning platform.
Evaluation
Compulsory Assignments
- Mandatory assignments (see course description for details)
Further on Evaluation
The grades are set based on delivered project. Details regarding the project deliveries will be described in the project description that will be published in the course. If failed, a new project assignment has to be delivered according to agreement with the course coordinator. Up to 6 mandatory assignments must be delivered according to plan and approved. There may be up to 6 compulsory seminar days, which will be specified in a course plan distributed at the beginning of the semester. To have access to the exam/project delivery, the mandatory requirements must be approved.
