About the Course
Course Content
The subject deals with processing and system design, providing an understanding of how energy systems can be integrated into a larger system, such as in a vessel. It covers the production of renewable energy in offshore/coastal areas, storage, and use, including carbon capture, hydrogen production, and the production of synthetic gas and bio-fuels.
Learning Outcome
- Knowledge: Students will demonstrate advanced knowledge of processes for the production of renewable energy and energy carriers, storage of energy carriers, energy conversion, and production of electrical energy.
- Skills: Students will be able to perform simple process calculations and system analyzes for an integrated energy system, assessing various energy solutions and possibilities for energy efficiency.
- General Competence: Students will have the ability to analyze and design complex energy systems, integrating the energy system in a larger context, and communicate with professionals and the public.
Learning Methods and Activities
The course includes lectures, guest lectures, exercises, and project work. A minimum of 2/3 of the compulsory exercises must be approved before admission to the examination.
Evaluation
- Project: 40% of the final grade
- Oral Exam: 60% of the final grade
- Re-sit Exam: Can be arranged as an oral exam in the spring semester.
Specific Conditions
Admission to a programme of study is required, including:
- Mechanical Engineering (BIMASKIN)
- Mechatronics and Product Design - Engineering (BIMEPRO)
- Naval Architecture - Engineering (699SD)
- Renewable Energy - Engineering (BIFOREN)
Course Materials
Course materials will be announced at the beginning of the semester.
Subject Areas
- Engineering
Examination
The examination arrangement is an aggregate score with letter grades. The ordinary examination in Autumn 2025 includes an assignment (40%) and an oral exam (60%). The re-sit examination in Spring 2026 follows a similar structure.
