Course Details

Course Description

The course "External practice 1" is a 7.5-credit intermediate course, level II, that focuses on providing students with practical experience in a company relevant to their study. The course is offered in English and Norwegian, and its location is Ĺlesund.


Course Content

The topics covered in the course will vary depending on the company and study location. However, the following topics should be included:


  • Manufacture and production planning
  • Production
  • Quality assurance procedures and systems
  • Cleaning procedures
  • Raw material processing
  • Finished product inspection
  • Health, safety, and security procedures

During the practice, the focus should be on sustainable innovation possibilities.


Learning Outcomes

The students will gain the following knowledge, skills, and competences:


  • Knowledge:
    • Relate theoretical knowledge from the study to the practice field
    • Discuss and assess sustainable innovation opportunities
    • Discuss and assess current health, environment, and safety (HES) aspects
  • Skills:
    • Fulfill a practice in a company relevant to their study
    • Reflect on practice in a supplementary written report
  • Competence:
    • Gain insight into different workspaces and enterprise culture in a company adapted to the study
    • Understand and apply relevant terminology for the current field of study

Learning Methods and Activities

The education methods include:


  • Three weeks of internship in a relevant company, summing up to 120 hours
  • A daily log of activities should be delivered along with the final report
  • The internship report should be specific for each company
  • The tasks are set up in consultation between the student, supervisor, and the company
  • Students will write a log for each working day
  • A total workload of 200 hours is expected

Mandatory Requirements

  • 90% attendance is required
  • Submitted and approved practice report
  • Oral presentation of the practice report to fellow students in the subject and sensors

Compulsory Assignments

  • Oral Presentation

Further Evaluation

  • Approved internship and report
  • The report will comprise approximately 2500 words (+/- 10%) and will be presented orally
  • The company approves the work by filling out an evaluation form
  • Internship report with answers to the exercises approved by the teacher and examiner
  • If not approved practical internship: the internship must be re-done
  • If not approved report: the report must be delivered again
