Program Overview

Course Overview

Course Description

The course "Form and Colour 2" (AAR4435) is an intermediate-level course that focuses on color theory, color phenomena, pattern formation, visualization, painting techniques, and Gestalt. The course aims to provide students with basic knowledge and understanding of color, composition, and drawing in two- and three-dimensional forms.

Course Details

Course Content

  • Color theory: Basic color theory through different color systems, evaluating and describing the character and properties of colors using color terminology.
  • Color phenomena: The interactions of color, how light and shadow affect the perception of color, and the impact of color on space and shape.
  • Pattern formation: Pattern formation through practical exploration in two- and three-dimensional forms, learning how new patterns are formed through repetitive sequences, and how color affects pattern formation.
  • Visualization: Axonometric drawing and color drawing are used as survey tools to three-dimensional form, digital and analogue collage techniques are used to further develop models in spatial context.
  • Painting technique: Skills exercises with practical color mixing and painting techniques.
  • Gestalt: Aesthetic interaction between form, composition, and use of color in two- and three-dimensional form ratios.

Learning Outcome

The student must have acquired basic knowledge and understanding in the subject area of color, composition in two- and three-dimensional form, and drawing. By practicing skills through practical work coupled with theory, students must put knowledge in context with architectural issues. The student must have developed a good understanding of concepts and be able to express ideas precisely about aesthetic issues using professional terms.

Learning Methods and Activities

  • Didactic methods: Through practical exploration, the basis for technical, theoretical, and intuitive learning is formed.
  • Subtasks in the drawing room: Knowledge and skills are acquired through practical subtasks, answers are solved both individually and in groups.
  • Lectures in the auditorium: All assignments are introduced through academic context to the perspective of architecture, design, and art.
  • Guidance: Individual guidance in the drawing room together with a team of teachers, attendance in the hall is important.
  • Joint discussion: The subject ends with an academic discussion where transfer to the architectural context is at the center.

Evaluation and Assessment

Further on Evaluation

Grades are based on the assessment of a portfolio and oral presentation. A combined PDF file based on requirements from assignment texts, where written reflections, drawings, photos/scans of collages, and other work are set up according to a suggested template. In addition to digital submission, physical work done in the autumn and spring must be submitted, as well as a printed version of the PDF file. It is important that the work is well documented, has a sufficiently high resolution, and is digitally edited where necessary.
