Course Overview

The course Logistics & Supply Chain Management (SMF1200) is a foundation course, level I, that introduces the fundamental principles and processes in logistics and supply chain management.

Course Content

This course covers the challenges of managing the flow of goods, information, and finances across supply chains and the interconnected nature of supply chains and their impact on a firm's value chain. The students will learn about:

• definitions, and importance of logistics and Supply chain management in business.
• components of the supply chain: sourcing, production, distribution, and returns.
• supply chain models (e.g., lean, agile).
• logistics and supply chain strategy.
• supply chain networks, integration and coordination.
• warehouse and distribution management.
• inventory management basics.
• demand and sales forecasting.
• risks in supply chains.
• green logistics.
• reverse logistics.
• digitalisation and cyber security in supply chains.

Learning Outcome

Knowledge

At the end of this course, students will have gained:

• knowledge about the core principles in logistics and supply chain management.
• knowledge of the different supply chain models and how they work at the firm level.
• knowledge about the importance of integration and collaboration in supply network.
• knowledge of the risks and challenges across logistics and supply chain processes.

Skills

Students should be able to:

• communicate effectively about logistics and supply chain concepts with diverse audiences.
• map basic supply chain processes from sourcing to delivery.
• analyze simple supply chain flows and identify areas for improvement.
• apply basic tools and techniques to understand inventory and distribution flows in the supply chain.

General Competence

Students will be able to apply knowledge and skills to:

• apply analytical thinking to solve simple supply chain problems.
• collaborate with others in a team to evaluate logistics scenarios and propose solutions.
• demonstrate an understanding of the impact of logistics and supply chain decisions have on a firm.

Evaluation

Re-sit exam for written exam in August. This can be changed to an oral exam. Approved obligatory assignments from earlier years are valid until substantial changes are done with respect to course content.
