Program Overview


Course Overview

The course TIŘ4905, Managerial Economics and Operations Research, Master's Thesis, is a 30-credit course at the second degree level. It starts in the spring semester of 2026 and lasts for one semester. The language of instruction is Norwegian, and the course is located in Trondheim.


Course Content

The student is expected to write a scientific report on a theme relevant to the main profile of the student. This task includes finding and reading relevant literature, choosing a research design and a relevant methodology, and using these methods in their project.


Learning Outcome

The course represents the concluding scientific work, taken in the 10th semester of the MTIŘT program. The thesis work is obligatory for all students. The knowledge developed in the course includes:


  • Specific and detailed knowledge about one particular area within the main profile area of the student
  • Knowledge about how to do scientific research, including knowledge about research design and methodology The skills developed in this course include:
  • Practical use of research methodology
  • Ability to understand what literature is relevant to a scientific problem, and to search for and employ this literature in a reasonable way
  • Ability to write a scientific report

Learning Methods and Activities

The student is expected to write a scientific thesis that satisfies the formal requirements for being counted as a scientific work. The thesis is a chance to develop the ability to structure the student's work time and to work independently with a large scientific project. A member of the scientific staff is available to supervise the work and be a discussion partner, and to help the student with important choices.


Specific Conditions

Admission to a programme of study is required, specifically Industrial Economics and Technology Management (MTIŘT).


Required Previous Knowledge

The student must have taken all obligatory courses within the main profile of Industrial economics and operations research, including the Specialization course and the Specialization Project. In addition, the practice requirements need to have been completed.

Examination

The examination arrangement is a Master's thesis, with a weighting of 100/100. The exam system is Inspera Assessment. The grade is given in letter grades.
