Program Overview


Course Overview

The course MDL4043, Medicine semester 2D, is a 30-credit course offered at the second degree level. It commences in the spring of 2026 and spans one semester. The language of instruction is Norwegian, and the course is located in Levanger.


Course Content

In semester 2D, the following subject areas are taught:


  • Obstetrics and women's diseases
  • Children's diseases
  • Skin diseases/venereal diseases
  • Plastic surgery
  • Rheumatology
  • Infectious diseases

In connection with these subjects, teaching is given in:


  • Microbiology
  • Pharmacology
  • Pathology
  • Diagnostic imaging

All Norwegian students, including Norwegian exchange students, must choose a topic for their main thesis, make an agreement with a supervisor, and submit a protocol for approval by 31 January of the following semester.

Learning Methods and Activities

Learning activities primarily take place in Levanger, with some occurring in Namsos and Trondheim. A high degree of student activity is planned, both in clinical teaching with patients and in theoretical teaching.

Evaluation

Compulsory Activities

Compulsory activity is assessed as approved or not approved and consists of:


  1. Attendance at Problem-Based Learning (PBL)
  2. Clinical rotation in the hospital (PKU)

A maximum of 15% unauthorized absence from this teaching is permitted. Students with an approved compulsory activity do not need to complete this again when repeating the exam.


The Exam

The exam consists of a two-part assessment:


  1. Written exam, 4 hours
  2. Oral exam, OSKE

Both parts must be passed for the exam to be passed. If a student fails, they have the opportunity to continue with the next semester. The resit exam will take place in August, and students who do not pass will have to resit only the part of the exam they did not pass.


Specific Conditions

Admission to a programme of study is required: Medical studies (CMED).


Required Previous Knowledge

Admission to CMED and successfully completed 3 years of medical school (MD4030/MD4031/MDT4030/MDL4030/MDA4030) are required.

Credit Reductions

The course has academic overlap with other courses. If a student takes overlapping courses, they will receive a credit reduction in the course where they have the lowest grade. If the grades are the same, the reduction will be applied to the course completed most recently.
