Course Details

Course Description

The course DIFT2800, Method and research front, provides students with an introduction to research methods, focusing on problem definition, research strategies, and methods for generating and analyzing data. This enables students to plan and carry out their own empirical research within their subject area. Additionally, students gain insight into ongoing research projects at the department, allowing them to critically assess the applied methodological approach in research projects.

Knowledge

  • The candidate has knowledge of how to plan and carry out empirical research within the subject area.
  • The candidate understands how to develop a problem definition and its impact on the research process.
  • The candidate is familiar with both qualitative and quantitative research designs and associated methods for data collection.
  • The candidate knows basic methods for analyzing qualitative and quantitative data, as well as criteria for assessing the quality of empirical research.
  • The candidate has knowledge of ongoing research projects within the subject area.

  • The candidate can apply acquired knowledge in carrying out empirical research using quantitative and/or qualitative methods.
  • The candidate can perform analysis and interpret results from both quantitative and/or qualitative data.

Learning Methods and Activities

The teaching activities in the course are a combination of lectures, guest lectures, group activities, and presentations with various topics related to research methods.


Evaluation

Assessment method: Portfolio assessment provides a basis for the final grade in the course, which is assessed as passed/failed. In the event of voluntary repetition, failed, or valid absence, the entire portfolio must be taken in a semester with teaching.

  • Admission to a programme of study is required: Digital Business Development (ITBAITBEDR).
