Course Description

The course "Practical Clinical Therapy Training - Child and Adolescents" (PSYPRO4602) is a second-degree level course offered at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU). This course is no longer taught and is only available for examination.

About the Course

Course Content

Through working in in-house practice, students will encounter a variety of problems and different work tasks relevant to later professional practice as a psychologist in the therapeutic role. The course covers analyses, diagnostic assessments, establishing contact, alliances, design and execution of treatment plans, the development of collaborative relationships, conclusion of therapy, and assessment of therapy. Plenary case presentation is an important forum for discussing issues related to assessment, planning, and implementation of clinical therapy both theoretically and methodologically. Record keeping is also included in the training.

Learning Methods and Activities

The course will include lectures, self-study in the form of exercises/group work, case presentations, seminars, and exercises with individual instruction. Student presentations may be applicable. There are no syllabus only for this course, but the syllabus in PSYPRO4601 - Clinical psychology - Children and Youth, is connected to the course.


Compulsory Assignments

  • 80% attendance at lectures

Evaluation

The student is allowed to repeat this course one time if the first time is evaluated as Fail. Failed course must be fully repeated and so must all mandatory assignments. The course is evaluated according to the "Guidelines for the implementation and evaluation of clinical practice".


Specific Conditions

Admission to a programme of study is required: Clinical Psychology Programme (CPSY6).


Required Previous Knowledge

Passed exam in PSYPRO is required. The class will be divided into two from this semester. One group will take the two children clinic courses PSYPRO4601 and PSYPRO4602, the second group the two adult clinic courses, PSYPRO4603 and PSYPRO4604, and reverse the following semester. A student who has not passed either PSYPRO4602 or PSYPRO4603 cannot proceed until this has been passed.

Any articles/supporting literature will be, if required, given by the trainers. The syllabus for the course PSYPRO4601 - Clinical psychology, children and youth, must also be regarded as supporting literature.


Credit Reductions

The course has academic overlap with the courses in the table below. If you take overlapping courses, you will receive a credit reduction in the course where you have the lowest grade. If the grades are the same, the reduction will be applied to the course completed most recently.
