Course Description

The course DRA3191, Project topic: Practical Master in Applied Theatre and Dramaturgy, constitutes the practical part of the student's artistic/art pedagogical problem in the master's program. The course focuses on the practical dimension of students' projects, either through developing their own practical work or through doing an internship in a relevant institution for 8 weeks.

About the Course

Course Content

The course has seminars where students learn about practical and methodological tools for planning, implementing, and documenting the master's project throughout the semester. The aim of the course is to provide a concrete and practically oriented knowledge base for the student's own development and to follow-up the master's projects.

Upon successful completion of this course, students will have:

• A broad understanding and insight into complex artistic or art educational production processes linked to their own master's project
• Broad understanding of the necessary skills and methods that must form the basis for the implementation of an individual master's project
• Knowledge of relevant methods for documentation

Skills

Upon successful completion of this course, students will know how to:

• Plan, develop, and realize their own artistic/art pedagogical practice according to their own research question
• Communicate and reflect on their own practice both orally and in writing
• Acquire practical skills related to the specialization focus of the independent master's thesis
• Anchor and place their own work in appropriate dramaturgical or applied discourses and practices
• Dispose of material, financial, and human resources for the project that follow basic sustainability principles
• Work goal-oriented, independently, and systematically, and collaborate in teams

Learning Methods and Activities

The course allows students to work both individually and in groups. Extra incentive funds in the form of increased support for master's scholarships can be given to those students who choose to work together. It is encouraged to cooperate with an external party.

Evaluation

Assessment

The assessment consists of an individual production report that is adjusted through individual oral exam and counts 20% of the total grade, and a practical performance/demonstration that is adjusted through an individual oral exam that counts 80% of the total grade. If this is failed, the entire course must be retaken.

The Project Report

In the project report, the student must account for their research question and outline some relevant preliminary findings. It should include relevant documentation such as agreements with collaborators, progress plans, scripts, audio/video files, excerpts from interviews, budget, log, etc. Supervision is given on the project report by the supervisor. The report must be submitted no later than one week before the exam is held.

Practical Demonstration and Oral Exam

The practical demonstration should usually have a duration of between 30-90 minutes, with a subsequent oral exam of up to 30 minutes. The exam consists of a scenic, performative presentation or display of a master's project. The form of communication can be a performance, a performative process, a work demonstration, workshop, or various combinations of these.

• Admission to a programme of study is required: Applied Theatre and Dramaturgy (MDT)

Required Previous Knowledge

• Requires admission to the Master's programme in Applied Theatre and Dramaturgy, and have completed all master courses for a value of 52.5 credits.
