Course Description

The course "Reading and writing competence in Spanish" (SPA1202) is a foundation course, level I, that focuses on developing students' written and oral language skills in Spanish. The course covers texts from different genres, and students will be trained to convey information or arguments in a coherent written presentation.

Examination Arrangement

  • Understand and be understood in Spanish both in writing and orally on a B2 level with a high degree of grammatical correctness

  • Use Spanish sentence structure in a correct manner
  • Convey advanced academic material such as theories, approaches to problems, and solutions, both in writing and orally
  • Use advanced grammatical structures (indicative/conjunctive, past/present/future, etc.)
  • Understand longer coherent speech and presentations and follow complex lines of arguments when the topic is relatively familiar

Learning Methods and Activities

The course is a combination of lectures and seminars with practical language training and reading of texts. Students will complete three mandatory assignments during the semester, of which at least one is an oral presentation.


Compulsory Assignments

  • 75% attendance
  • 3 exercises

Recommended Previous Knowledge

SPA1201 and SPA1101. All lectures will be conducted in Spanish, and the exam will be fully answered in Spanish.
