Study Environment
The scientific community within materials science and engineering is centrally situated at the Gl½shaugen campus, close to the city centre of Trondheim. The program has access to excellent facilities and state-of-the-art scientific equipment, as well as strong teaching and research collaborations. Students will work on their MSc thesis in close collaboration with their supervisor and other researchers or students working on similar topics.
Programme Structure
The two-year MSc program at NTNU extends over four semesters and has the following general structure:
- 1st and 2nd semester: Practical engineering courses based on the chosen study program and specialization. Interdisciplinary group project (Experts in Teamwork, EiT).
- 3rd and 4th semester: A non-technological topic. Specialization project with an accompanying specialization course, normally continued into the final master's thesis in the 4th semester.
Admission
For the MSc program in Materials Science and Engineering, a minimum of a BSc/BEng degree (normally 3-4 years) in Materials Science and Engineering or metallurgy is required, with an average grade of C or better. Candidates with a degree in Mechanical engineering, Inorganic/physical chemistry, or chemical engineering, with a strong focus on materials science and engineering, may also be accepted.
