Program Overview
Introduction to the Leadership Co-Curricular Certificate Program
The Leadership Co-Curricular Certificate Program is designed to develop cross-cultural and transformational leadership in Miami University Regional students. This program is guided by core values of student-centeredness, collaboration, authenticity, professionalism, inclusion, and values.
Leadership Philosophy
The Regional Office of Student Activities & Orientation (ROSA) believes that everyone has the capacity to be a leader, which is the ability to share, explain, and execute a vision toward a desired outcome. The core purpose is to develop cross-cultural and transformational leadership in Miami University Regional students to ensure participants are prepared and inspired to lead beyond the university.
Domains of Student Development
The Leadership Co-Curricular Certificate programs are structured within five domains of development, which are critical in holistic student development:
- Knowledge
- Relationships
- Ethics
- Well-Being
- Service
Fundamental Tenets of Leadership Development
The program also utilizes four tenets of leadership development that augment the five domains:
- Growth and Authenticity
- Character and Responsibility
- Innovation and Vision
- Empowerment and Engagement
Certificate Requirements
The Regional Leadership Co-Curricular Certificate Program is an experience that challenges participants to examine leadership from several perspectives and reflect on their personal leadership. The requirements include:
- Completing a pre-assessment
- Completing a CliftonStrengths Assessment
- Completing a Strengths Activity
- Completing 12 Leadership Activities and submitting post-activity reflections
- Submitting a Leadership Philosophy Statement
- Completing a post-assessment and application to complete the certificate
Examples of Leadership Activities
Examples of leadership activities include:
- Attending workshops or lectures that focus on leadership topics
- Leadership roles in campus or community organizations
- Participating in a service activity
- Reading leadership development books
- At least 4 activities should include ROSA-sponsored Leadership Programs
- Students should select programs that are most in line with their passion areas
- No more than 3 activities can be reused
- No more than 3 activities can be associated with paid employment
Why Leadership
Participants in the Leadership Co-Curricular Certificate program will explore and define who they are as a leader with the support of their peers and the greater Miami community. The goal of this program is to express the importance of an ever-evolving philosophy of leadership that students can take to the next step of their lives.
