Program Overview
Overview of the Miami University "Tuition Promise"
The Miami University "Tuition Promise" is a fee structure that applies to students who first enroll at Miami University's regional campuses during the fall semester of 2018 or later. These students are assigned to the same "Tuition Promise" cohort. The fees for each cohort are set by the Board of Trustees and are guaranteed for eight consecutive semesters, including four winter semesters and four summer semesters.
Eligibility for the Miami University "Tuition Promise"
The "Tuition Promise" is available to first-time undergraduate students, including Ohio residents and non-Ohio residents, who enroll in a degree program at Miami University's Oxford campus or regional campuses.
Fees Covered by the Miami University "Tuition Promise"
The "Tuition Promise" covers tuition (instructional and general fees), room and board (for Oxford campus students), special purpose fees, and course fees. General fees are non-instructional services and programs available to all students, such as student life facilities, programs, and transportation. Special purpose fees are used to support specific academic programs, and course fees are used to support the cost of instructional materials and other course-related expenses.
Fees Not Covered by the Miami University "Tuition Promise"
Other fees and charges, such as vehicle registration, textbook purchases or rentals, library and parking fees, and fines, are not included in the "Tuition Promise" and may be subject to change.
Impact on Scholarships
Under the "Tuition Promise," Miami University's four-year renewable scholarships will retain their full value, as the tuition and scholarship amounts will remain the same for four years.
Transfer Students
Transfer students are eligible for the "Tuition Promise" and will be assigned to the corresponding cohort for the semester in which they enroll.
Non-Degree Seeking Students
The "Tuition Promise" does not apply to non-degree seeking students, including conditional admit students, such as those enrolled in the American Culture and English (ACE) program or the English Language Center (ELC), and exchange students and high school students participating in pre-admission or post-secondary selective programs.
International Students
The "Tuition Promise" applies to first-time undergraduate international students who enroll in a degree program at Miami University.
Graduate Students
The "Tuition Promise" only applies to undergraduate students and does not apply to graduate students.
Credits and Terms
- Students can register for an unlimited number of credit hours under the "Tuition Promise."
- The "Tuition Promise" covers winter and summer semester courses, which are billed at the cohort's guaranteed per-credit hour rate.
- If a student needs more than four years to complete their degree, they will be automatically assigned to the next cohort (cohort + 1) for up to one year, and if they still need to register after that, they will be assigned to the next cohort (cohort + 2), and so on, until they are no longer registered.
Other Fees
- Special purpose fees and course fees are also guaranteed for the duration of the cohort.
- The "Tuition Promise" does not cover textbook costs.
- Other fees, such as study abroad fees, workshop fees, fines, and parking permits, are not included in the "Tuition Promise."
Enrollment Status
- Current or re-enrolling students are not eligible for the "Tuition Promise."
- Students who enroll in a degree program at Miami University's regional campuses and later transfer to the Oxford campus will be assigned to the Oxford campus's highest non-graduating cohort if the transfer occurs within four years of their initial enrollment.
Leave of Absence
- If a student takes a leave of absence for one or more semesters, they can retain their original cohort fee rate when they re-enroll, if the cohort's four-year period has not expired.
- If the four-year period has expired, the re-enrolling student will be assigned to the highest non-graduating cohort.
Study Abroad
- Students who participate in study abroad programs will retain their original cohort fee rate, but the semester(s) spent abroad will count towards the eight-semester total.
Withdrawal
- If a student formally withdraws from all courses in a semester, they can retain their original cohort fee rate if they re-enroll in the next semester, but the withdrawn semester will not count towards the eight-semester total.
