Introduction to the Doctoral Program in Mineralogy and Petrology
The doctoral program in Mineralogy and Petrology is a new program that combines two existing doctoral programs with a long tradition Mineralogy and Petrology. The program is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the composition, structure, and properties of minerals and rocks, as well as their formation and evolution.
Program Description
The program is focused on the study of minerals and rocks, including their composition, structure, and properties. Students will gain a deep understanding of the geological processes that shape the Earth's crust and will be able to apply this knowledge to a wide range of fields, including geology, mining, and environmental science.
Program Requirements
To complete the program, students must earn a minimum of 35 credits for the internal form and 45 credits for the external form of study. The credits are distributed as follows:

Elective Courses
Students must also complete a minimum of 10 credits of elective courses, with a minimum of two compulsory-elective courses. Additionally, students must complete a minimum of 9 credits of optional courses, with a minimum of three optional courses.
Final Thesis and Defense
The final thesis and defense are worth 30 credits. Students must submit a dissertation that meets the program's requirements and defend it in front of a panel of experts.
Publication Requirements
To graduate, students must meet the following publication requirements:
- Minimum Publication Criteria: Students must publish at least one Q1-Q3 WOS (JCR) article and one article from category Q1-Q4, where the quartile of the journal can come from the WOS (JCR) or SCOPUS (SJR) database. These articles must be related to the topic of the dissertation.
- Criteria for Submitting a Dissertation as a Set of Published Papers: If a student chooses to submit their dissertation as a set of published papers with a commentary, they must meet the following conditions:
- At least three scientific publications, of which two must be Q1-Q3 and one can be Q1-Q4 (WOS - JCR or SCOPUS - SJR)
- In at least one paper, the student must be the first author or corresponding author
