Faculty of Social and Economic Sciences

This project is an academic training program that gathers students from different countries and backgrounds to learn, discuss, and research various issues within the scope of the United Nations.

Regional Academy on the United Nations

The Regional Academy on the United Nations is a unique opportunity for students to engage in research projects and policy papers focused on current topics related to specialized UN agencies. Participants work in mixed groups, simulating real-world situations, and are guided by experts from the respective UN agencies and faculty coordinators. The program offers students a chance to meet and work with UN officials, visit the UN headquarters in Vienna, and potentially join the list of interns or future collaborators.

Research Areas

Research topics within the RAUN program can vary widely, including:

  • Outer space affairs
  • Drugs and crime
  • Women's rights
  • Peace and security

Program Structure

The program typically involves:

  • Rounds of lectures and presentations from experts in academia, NGOs, national governments, and UN agencies
  • Group work with experts from specific UN agencies
  • Participation in the annual conference of the Academic Council of the United Nations System (ACUNS)
  • Opportunities for networking among students and with experts

Benefits

The RAUN program provides participants with an enriching experience, defining their path in studies and offering opportunities to build a network among students and experts. Former participants can also join the Peer+ program, assisting subsequent year's students throughout their research process.
