Introduction to the UNIcert Program

The UNIcert program was developed by the Language Center of the Technical University in Dr墑noch and the Association of University Language Centers (Arbeitskreis der Sprachzentren) in Germany in 1991. This program was created as a response to the processes of European unification and the increasing internationalization of trade, industry, science, and research. New forms of cooperation between European universities emerged, particularly in student mobility programs. The UNIcert program is implemented at three levels (I-IV), which correspond to the levels of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (B1-C2).

Program Description

The UNIcert program is an international educational and testing program that provides:

  • Professional and academically oriented language training
  • The opportunity to obtain a certificate of knowledge of the Slovak language at the B1 level (according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages)
  • Support for intercultural exchange in a multilingual context and mobility
  • Evidence of knowledge of the Slovak language in a specific field of study for future employers

Program Goals

The goal of the UNIcert program is to develop the main language skills of international students in general and dental medicine, focusing on activating their communicative language abilities. The aim of language training is for students to acquire knowledge, skills, and abilities that enable them to understand Slovak-speaking patients and colleagues, particularly in oral communication. Students will be able to comprehend basic information in general texts, especially in professional texts that correspond to their field of study.

Program Structure and Requirements

The program is based on the specific conditions of the faculty and the requirements of UNIcert LUCE. It includes:

  • Five semesters of specialized language training according to the study schedule at the Faculty of Medicine, UK
  • Communication within clinical practice in a hospital
  • After completing the prescribed number of hours of specialized language training and clinical practice, participants have the right to obtain a UNIcert certificate based on cumulative evaluation of results, at the end of the third year.
  • The cumulative evaluation assesses students who have successfully completed all five semesters of specialized language training with a score of over 72%, without achieving a grade higher than A, B, or C in individual parts, and have completed the prescribed range of practice.
  • The final grade is a weighted average of the results from individual blocks/semesters and the final exam.

Certification

The issuance of the certificate is subject to a fee, which is determined by the price list set by the 湥TCJ.
