Place of Realisation

The study program is realized at the Medical Faculty, Comenius University in Bratislava, and its parts, including clinical workplaces, which are part of university hospitals providing education to students at the Faculty of Medicine, CU in Bratislava.

Awarded Academic Degree

The awarded academic degree is doctor ("philosophiae doctor", in short, "PhD.").

Language of the Program

The program is organized in Slovak and English.

Standard Length of Study

The standard length of study is four years (internal form) or five years (external form).

Graduate Profile and Learning Objectives

The content of the PhD study program is focused on the study of physiological and pathological processes of altered functions of individual organs and systems of the human body. During the doctoral study, students acquire knowledge in the field of physiology, pathological physiology, biochemistry of behavioral manifestations, and examination methods from several preclinical and clinical areas. The main goal of these activities is the theoretical as well as practical mastery of methods that are standardly used in experimental and clinical research of functional disorders.

Career Opportunities

Graduates of the presented doctoral study program are in demand mainly at workplaces of the Ministry of Health, such as departments of internal medicine and pediatrics, neurology, cardiology, psychiatry, and psychology, and clinical pharmacology. Graduates can work within the Ministry of Education as university teachers or researchers at universities with a focus on medicine, health sciences, public health, such as physiology, pathophysiology, pathological anatomy, biochemistry, pharmacology, genetics, and biology.

Evaluation of the Study Program Quality

A request to assess the quality of the submitted study program was sent to selected employers to express their opinion on the need for a new doctoral study program focused on medical biology and clinical genetics.
