Program Overview


Introduction to the Chinese Language Learning Program

The Chinese Language Learning Program at Tianjin University is designed for international students from around the world who are passionate about the Chinese language. After enrollment, students learn Chinese full-time at the International Education Institute of Tianjin University as regular visiting students. The program is divided into three teaching levels: beginner, intermediate, and advanced. Classes are taught to students in groups of around fifteen people, with four hours of learning per day and twenty hours per week. At the end of the study period, students will receive a certificate of completion and a transcript.


Program Curriculum

  1. Chinese courses: spoken language, oral comprehension, written comprehension, synthetic language
  2. Optional Chinese culture courses: Taiji, Wushu, calligraphy, Chinese painting, paper-cutting, cooking, Chinese songs, traditional Chinese engraving
  3. Other optional courses: HSK 4-6 support courses, business Chinese
  4. Extracurricular activities: visiting Tianjin City; for any other additional activities requested by students, the fees will be at their own expense

Study Period

One semester or more, 20 hours of classes per week


Qualifications Required

  1. Non-Chinese citizens; for individuals who were previously Chinese citizens and have since acquired foreign nationality, Tianjin University implements the diplomatic letter from the Ministry of Education [2020] document 12. Applicants must be of good moral character, in good physical and mental health, and willing to respect Chinese laws and regulations as well as the rules and regulations of Tianjin University.
  2. High school graduate and above 18 years old. Applicants who are not yet 18 years old at the beginning of the current semester must submit the original notarized certificate of guardian issued by the Tianjin notary office. The guardian must be a permanent resident of Tianjin.

Application Deadline

Spring semester: application open from October 1st to December 31st of the current year, entry in late February of the following year Autumn semester: application open from March 1st to June 30th, entry in early September


How to Apply

Applicants must log in to the International Student Service Platform of Tianjin University (tju.at0086.cn/student) within the specified time, register, and fill in the application information, then upload the required application documents.


  • Original or notarized copy of the highest degree certificate
  • Scanned original or notarized copy of transcripts of all courses at the highest academic level
  • CV of continuous learning experience since high school
  • Scanned copy of the first page of the passport (ordinary passport during the validity period)
  • Applicants who will study for one year must submit the Foreigner Physical Examination Form issued by a public hospital, which must be filled in Chinese or English, and the items listed in the form must be strictly checked. Physical examination results made within 6 months of application are considered valid.
  • Applicants who are currently studying must submit proof of enrollment, and applicants who are already working must submit proof of employment.
  • Applicants who will study for one year must provide a clean criminal record.

Admission

Applicants can check the status of their application at any time through the International Student Service Platform of Tianjin University. Tianjin University will issue admission notices and a visa application form for international students studying in China to finally admitted applicants.


Scholarship

Applicants with excellent academic results can apply for the Chinese Government Scholarship, which covers tuition fees, living expenses, accommodation fees, and medical insurance. For more information on the Chinese Government Scholarship, please refer to the website.


Visa Application and Registration

  1. Admitted applicants must go to the Chinese embassy (or consulate) abroad to apply for a Chinese student visa with their ordinary passport, admission notice, visa application form for international students studying in China, and the original "Foreigner Physical Examination Form" and all physical examination reports. Admitted applicants must also bring the above-mentioned documents and come to Tianjin University to complete the registration procedures according to the date specified in the admission notice.
  2. The autumn registration period at Tianjin University is generally at the end of August or early September. The spring registration period is generally in late February or early March. When registering, new students must present the required original diploma for Tianjin University to verify their admission qualifications, and the original diploma certification issued by the graduating institution or certification authority. Those who do not meet the admission requirements will have their registration canceled.

Fees

  1. Registration fee and tuition fee (paid after admission):
  • 1 semester: 420 yuan registration fee, 7,000 yuan tuition fee
  • 1 academic year: 420 yuan registration fee, 14,000 yuan tuition fee
  1. Accidental injury and hospitalization insurance premium: 400 yuan/semester
  2. Other expenses such as travel and study materials are at the student's own expense
  3. Accommodation fees
  • (1) International student apartment fee standard on campus
    • Single room: 60 yuan/person/day/room, equipped with fixed-line phone, TV, air conditioning, shower, toilet, safe; the tenant is responsible for electricity and internet fees.
    • Double room: 50 yuan/person/day/room, equipped with laundry room, public kitchen on each floor, private bathroom; the tenant is responsible for electricity and internet fees.
  • (2) Off-campus accommodation: need to go to the police station of the Public Security Bureau to register within 24 hours of check-in.
