Program Overview
Introduction to the Ship and Ocean Engineering Discipline
The Ship and Ocean Engineering discipline at Tianjin University is one of the earliest and most prestigious programs in China. It is a national "985" and "211" key construction discipline, and a "double first-class" key construction discipline. The program has been rated as a first-class undergraduate program by the Ministry of Education in 2019 and has been ranked as an A-level program by the international soft science ranking in 2021.

The program is divided into three professional training directions:
- High-new ship and ocean equipment intelligent design and management
- Ocean engineering and intelligent maritime
- International shipping and ship-ocean engineering intelligent management
The program has a strong faculty team, with 2 dual-employed academicians, 1 national teaching master, 1 national 973 plan chief scientist, 1 national "Ten Thousand Talents Program" winner, 3 national specially appointed experts, 2 national outstanding young scientists, and 1 Yangtze River scholar.
Research Areas
The program has made significant achievements in research, with 5 national-level teaching achievements, including 2 first prizes and 3 second prizes. The program has also undertaken several national-level research projects, including the national 973 project, the national major special project, and the national natural science foundation project.

Development Prospects
In recent years, the country has decided to develop the design and construction of the industry towards intelligentization. The program has taken the lead in opening courses such as intelligent design technology, big data theory and application, reliability theory and application, intelligent ship and ocean engineering structure design, and simulation technology. The program will also open courses such as digital twin technology, which will promote the industry's comprehensive development towards intelligentization. The combination of intelligent technology and the program will create huge economic benefits for the country.
