Paramedic Assessment for Registration Short Course
The Paramedic Assessment for Registration short course is delivered in conjunction with Te Kaunihera Manapou (Paramedic Council) New Zealand. This assessment programme is available to individuals who are eligible under pathway C for registration as a paramedic.

- Online theory
- Simulation
- OSCEs (Objective Structured Clinical Examinations)
- Viva Voce
- Skills and clinical rationale assessments
These components cover the five domains associated with the standards of clinical competence for paramedics.
Course Details
What You'll Study
The five domains of clinical competence for paramedics are:
- Domain 1: Professional and Ethical Practice
- Domain 2: Communication and Collaboration
- Domain 3: Evidence-Based Practice
- Domain 4: Safety and Risk Management
- Domain 5: Paramedic Clinical Practice
Each domain comprises a list of statements that identify the scope of competencies a paramedic must demonstrate.
Course Duration and Structure
- The course requires approximately 32 hours of online learning.
- There are 8 hours of in-person practical scenarios, OSCEs, and assessments.
- Extensive pre-learning is facilitated through the AUT Canvas learning management system.
- Participants have 2 months to complete the online learning before attending the in-person session.
Suitability
This course is primarily aimed at prehospital emergency services personnel, including:
- Extended or intensive care paramedics
- Paramedics
- Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs)
who have completed a recognized paramedic or equivalent qualification.

Fees
The fee for domestic students is $1,500.00*, which includes the tuition fee and is in NZ dollars, including GST.
Disclaimer
Enrolment in this course is only complete after payment of course fees. Fees can be paid online, on any AUT campus, or by fees invoice. If fees are not paid within two weeks and 10 days before the course starts, enrolment will be cancelled. AUT reserves the right to cancel courses that do not have enough students, providing at least 2 or 3 days' notice, and offering the option to transfer to another start date for this course.
