Program Overview


Medical Terminology Course - Certificate of Proficiency

The Medical Terminology course is a self-directed, 7-month program delivered online, covering the structure of medical terms, definition of components, and units for each body system. This includes terms related to anatomy, physiology, diseases, investigations, procedures, and pharmacology, as well as the expansion of abbreviations used in New Zealand health records.


About the Course

This course is mainly aimed at students who are already in, or looking to gain employment in, the healthcare arena. This includes roles in hospitals, medical records, ward clerks, typists, clinic receptions, doctors' surgeries, radiology departments, allied health surgeries, or insurance companies.

To pass the course, students must successfully complete 4 assessments.

Enrolment in the course is only complete after payment of course fees. Fees can be paid online, on any AUT campus, or by fees invoice. If fees are not paid within two weeks and 10 days before the course starts, enrolment will be cancelled. If an employer is paying fees, a purchase order with the employer's contact and billing details must be provided before the course starts. AUT reserves the right to cancel courses with insufficient students, providing at least 2 or 3 days' notice, and offering transfer to another start date for the course.
