Program Overview


Advanced Te Reo Mori Courses

The advanced te reo Mori courses are designed for advanced learners of te reo Mori and are conducted entirely in te reo Mori. These courses extend on content taught in previous te reo courses and further develop the language skills of students.


Course Overview

As these courses are conducted entirely in te reo Mori, it is expected that students will converse in te reo Mori with instructors and peers, both in and out of class time.


Course Descriptors

There are two advanced te reo Mori courses:


  • MAOR701 Tere ki Tai Advanced Mori Language 1
  • MAOR702 Te ki Uta Advanced Mori Language 2

Prerequisites

To enrol in MAOR701, students must complete MAOR602. To enrol in MAOR702, students must complete MAOR701. If students have not completed the prerequisites at the university, they may be required to complete a Recognition of Prior Learning test (RPL).


Target Audience

The advanced te reo Mori courses are suitable for people who are fluent in Te Reo Mori and are looking to expand their skills and knowledge further. These courses are open to domestic and international students.


Course Outcomes

Students who successfully complete the advanced level course will have a solid grasp of the language, which will benefit them in their personal aspirations.


Classes

  • Semester 1, 2026: 23 February-19 June (semester break: 6 April-19 April)
  • Semester 2, 2026: 13 July-6 November (semester break: 24 August-6 September) There are no classes during the semester break.
    • MAOR701 Tere ki Tai Advanced Mori Language 1: Thursdays, 5pm-8pm, City Campus
    • MAOR702 Te ki Uta Advanced Mori Language 2: Thursdays, 5pm-8pm, City Campus

Admission Criteria

Students must meet the prerequisites for each course. If students have not completed the prerequisites at the university, they may be required to complete a Recognition of Prior Learning test (RPL).

Te Whanake is a set of textbooks, study guides, CDs, manuals, and a te reo dictionary that supports te reo learning.
