Preparatory Year of Romanian Language

The Babe-Bolyai University offers a Romanian language preparatory year for candidates who are not familiar with the Romanian language and opt to follow a study program available only in Romanian. The Romanian language preparatory year follows the structure of the academic year (October-June) and is an intensive course comprising 25 hours of coursework per week, spanning two semesters.

Admission Procedure

To apply for the preparatory year, candidates must choose the level of studies (bachelor's, master's, or doctoral) they wish to pursue after the preparatory year and complete the application form accordingly. It is not possible to apply solely for the Romanian language preparatory year without specifying the level and field of study for the full-time program to be pursued afterward.

Eligibility Criteria

Before starting the admission formalities, candidates must check if they meet the minimum eligibility criteria, which include:

• High school graduation grade (for bachelor's studies) or bachelor's degree (for master's studies) with a minimum required grade.
• Previous studies in a related field to the chosen program.
• For the preparatory year followed by a bachelor's program, three relevant subjects from high school transcripts, each with a minimum grade of 60% (out of 100), that align with the chosen field of study.
• For the preparatory year followed by a master's program, specific criteria must be met, which can be found in the eligibility criteria for master's degree programs.

Documents Required for Application

The following documents are required for the application:

• Application form, which is filled out online through the admission platform.
• Copy of the passport, valid for at least 8 months from the moment of application.
• High school graduation diploma or bachelor's diploma, certified copy in the original language and certified translation (in Romanian, English, or French, if the original is not issued in one of these languages).
• Transcript of records pertaining to previous studies, certified copy in the original language and certified translation (in Romanian, English, or French, if the original is not issued in one of these languages).
• Motivation letter (maximum one A4 page, 200-300 words).
• Birth certificate, certified copy in the original language and certified translation (in Romanian, English, or French, if the original is not issued in one of these languages).
• Medical certificate (in Romanian, English, or French, not older than 3 months) attesting that the applicant does not suffer from any contagious diseases or other afflictions incompatible with the future profession.
• Proof of payment of the non-refundable processing fee of 50 EUR.

Tuition Fee

The tuition fee for the preparatory year is 3,015 EUR.

Registration Calendar

The registration period is from April 1st, 2026, to June 15th, 2026. Early registration is recommended to ensure availability of the chosen program, to receive an early response from the Ministry of Education and the Embassy, and to secure on-campus accommodation.

Academic Offer

The university allocates seats for the Romanian preparatory year to ensure equal opportunities for all countries, with a limited number of seats per country. Seats are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis, provided the candidate meets all eligibility criteria and is admitted to the chosen specialization.

Admission Process

The admission process for candidates from non-EU countries involves several steps, including verifying eligibility, creating an account on the admission platform, filling out the application form, paying the processing fee, uploading the required documents, and waiting for the application to be processed by the university and the Ministry of Education. Once accepted, candidates must pay the tuition fee and apply for a study visa at the Romanian Embassy.
