Program Overview
Master 1 Mťtiers du livre Program
The Master 1 Mťtiers du livre program offers students theoretical knowledge and practical skills in the book and publishing industries. The program includes courses on literary culture, general culture related to books, their history, evolution, and current trends. In addition to specific English language instruction, students take courses in infographics and manuscript writing techniques to familiarize themselves with editorial project development. They also attend conferences led by book industry professionals with whom the teaching team has close ties, including authors, illustrators, publishers, booksellers, librarians, mediators, institutional representatives, distributors, printers, and more.
Program Structure
A tutored project on the book industry, culminating in a dissertation, provides students with privileged contact with professionals at local, regional, and national levels.
Admission Requirements
To be eligible for the program, applicants must:
- Hold a bachelor's degree
- Have strong writing skills
- Have a professional project in the book industry
Selection Process
Applications are submitted through the eCandidat interface. Selection is based first on the application dossier, followed by a motivational interview for shortlisted candidates. 12 candidates are admitted to the main list and 12 to the complementary list.
Application Dossier
The application dossier must include:
- A wish form indicating if the M1 Mťtiers du livre is the sole choice or if the applicant is willing to accept another course
- A curriculum vitae detailing university coursework, teachings related to the book industry, completed and planned internships
- A handwritten letter describing motivations and the envisioned professional project
- A one-page document (2500 characters) describing a specific experience related to one of the book industries
- A transcript of the bachelor's degree grades
Further Education
This Master 1 program is a precursor to the existing M2 Mťtiers du livre. Students who complete the Master 1 or professionals with experience in the book industry can access the Master 2 Professionnel Mťtiers du livre.
