Introduction to DIU Santé Tropicale et Pathologies du Voyageur

The DIU Santé Tropicale et Pathologies du Voyageur (STPV) is a university diploma that opens every other year, alternating with the DU Infection par le VIH. The next opening is scheduled for 2026/2027.

Objectives

This formation provides students with the basic information and practical advice necessary for:

• Receiving and caring for patients who have stayed in tropical environments in metropolitan areas
• Integrating into a care team in a PED, particularly in the context of a humanitarian mission

Pedagogical Organization

The diploma has a total of 80 hours of instruction, divided into 5 modules of 16 hours each, and takes place over 1 year. It is offered every 2 years. Each of the 4 faculties organizes a theoretical teaching module for 2 days for all students and a practical module (practical and guided work) for students enrolled on site.

Knowledge Control

The training is sanctioned by a Diplome Inter-Universitaire. The control of knowledge is sanctioned by:

• A 2-hour written admission test
• An oral admission test Attendance at teachings is required to pass the knowledge control tests.

Contents

The program is divided into 5 modules:

1. Module 1: Introduction; bilharzioses, trypanosomiases, amibiase, lčpre; vaccinations in tropical environments; SIDA in Africa and Asia; other MST; maternal health; obstetrical problems
2. Module 2: Hydatidoses, distomatoses, mématodoses, cestodoses, protozooses intestinales, filrioses, hépatites, salmonelloses, shigellose; diarrhea in tropical environments; essential medications; antiparasitics
3. Module 3: Malaria, leishmaniasis, cholera; hygiene and logistics in disaster situations; malnutrition; neurological damage in tropical areas
4. Module 4: Tuberculosis, plague, rabies, arboviroses, yellow fever, viral hemorrhagic fevers; anemias; hemoglobinopathies; hyper eosinophilia; tropical dermatoses; vaccinations for travelers; advice for travelers
5. Module 5: Parasitology practical work; bacteriology practical work; clinical case practical work

Public and Prerequisites

The program is open to:

• Holders of a state diploma in medicine
• Holders of a medical diploma from a foreign country
• Medical interns
• Doctors and interns in pharmacy
• Holders of a state diploma in nursing care
