The Programme in Financial Management is designed to equip entrepreneurs, managers, accountants, bookkeepers, employees in the financial services sector, and state-owned enterprises with the fundamental principles of financial management.

Admission Requirements

To be admitted to the programme, applicants must have:

• A National Senior Certificate (NSC) or Grade 12 or Matric certificate
• An equivalent NQF level 4 qualification

• Advice: Students with family and work commitments may consider spreading the programme over two years, doing two modules each year for two consecutive years.

Purpose Statement

The purpose of the programme is to learn the fundamental principles of financial management, including how to read and interpret financial statements, analyse financial statements, use a financial calculator, assess risk and return, do financial planning, and manage the cash flow of a firm.

The programme consists of the following modules:

PFIN015 - Introduction to Financial Management

• Content: Goal of financial management, understanding financial statements, analysis of financial statements, financial planning, time value of money, risk and return, valuation of financial assets

PFIN026 - Financing and Investment Decision

• Content: Capital budgeting techniques, cost of capital, financing, dividend policy

PFIN038 - The Management of Working Capital

• Content: Inventory management, management of accounts receivable, cash management

PFIN061 - Financial Sustainability Management

• Content: Types of sustainability, leadership and ethics, business models, risk management, business continuity management, governance, business rescue
