Duration: The Programme in Safety Management is a 12-month programme.
Language Medium: Exam papers and course material will only be in English.

Admission Requirements

• Matric certificate - Pass only. Your results and subjects are not relevant, OR
• No Senior Certificate (Matric), relevant work experience (CV with employer's reference letter), and other prior learning courses can be considered.

Study Fee Quotation

• The fee per candidate is R 7200.00. This includes all study material and examination fees. Registration is from 1 December until the end of March.

Kind of Assessment

Students are evaluated through:

• Formative assessment assignments
• Formal written summative assessment examinations

Two assignments are set for each module. One examination paper for each of the four modules will be written in January/February of the year following the initial registration. Each examination paper will have a duration of two hours. Students must obtain a minimum mark of 50% in each of the four modules to successfully qualify for the course certificate.

Purpose Statement

This course focuses on the science of Safety Management and the safety responsibilities of both line managers and staff safety practitioners. It introduces key concepts in safety management, including risk assessment, safety management in industry, and the analysis of safety incidents. The programme is designed to meet the needs of line managers and safety practitioners in fulfilling their legal responsibilities and professional accountability, ensuring a safe workplace and work procedures.

• Hazard analysis in accordance with the OHS Act, MHS Act, and SANS
• Performing hazard analysis and safety risk assessment in the workplace
• Evaluating different forms of safety risk assessments

PSMP038 - Manage Safety in the Workplace

• Definition and philosophy of a safety management programme
• Elements of an effective safety management programme
• Guidelines for developing and implementing safety management programmes

PSMP049 - Analyse Safety Incidents
