Admission Requirements

Student Fees and Funding
The university charges an application fee, which is non-refundable. Students must also pay tuition fees, which vary depending on the program and the student's residency status. There are also funding opportunities available for students, including bursaries and scholarships.
Application for Admission
To apply for admission, students must submit an online application, which includes uploading supporting documents. The application period is usually open until a certain date, and students have 10 working days to upload all the required documents.
Registration
Only students whose application for admission was approved and re-registering students who made sufficient progress during the current academic year will be allowed to register online. Students with outstanding fees or a library block on their accounts will not be able to register online until these issues are resolved.
Curriculum

Master of Education in Mathematics Education

Admission Requirements
To be admitted to the Master of Education in Mathematics Education program, students must meet the following requirements:
- An appropriate Bachelor of Education Honours Degree, with a minimum of 96 credits at NQF level 8 with an average of 60% and Mathematics/Mathematics Education up to Level 2 (NQF Level 6)
- Or an appropriate Postgraduate Diploma, with a minimum of 96 credits at NQF level 8 with an average of 60%
- A student who is admitted on the strength of a Postgraduate Diploma and who has not completed a module in research methodology will be required to complete such a module at NQF level 8 for NDP before he/she will be allowed to register for the module in research methodology of which the outcome is the research proposal
Time Limits for this Degree
All Master's and Doctoral qualifications are structured over a defined period. A student registered for a 180-credit structured research Master's degree must complete the study program within three years. A student may make application to their supervisor for one additional year of study.
Research Master's Degree
A research Master's degree comprises a dissertation on an approved topic. Students will be expected to have a research proposal approved in the first year of study. If a student does not complete a research proposal in the first year of study, they will not be permitted to continue with the qualification.

Research Outline
Students must submit a detailed research outline for the qualification for which they apply. The research outline must include:
- Title
- Summary of topic
- Short literature review
- Expected contribution of the study
- Methodology to be followed
- Availability of the data
- List of references
- Reasons why you are interested in the topic
The research outline must align with one of the departmental research focus areas. Students should strive to incorporate at least one of the Catalytic Niche Areas (CNAs) into their research.
