University Program Information

The University of South Africa (Unisa) offers a wide range of undergraduate and honors qualifications, including the Bachelor of Arts degree.

Bachelor of Arts

The Bachelor of Arts degree is a 360-credit qualification at NQF level 7, with the qualification code 99311 - TLG. The purpose of this qualification is to familiarize learners with the content and basic theories of various disciplines in the humanities and social sciences.

Rules

• This qualification consists of 30 modules.
• Students must have access to a computer, printer, and the internet.
• The maximum number of credits allowed per academic year is 120, and per semester is 60.

Curriculum

The curriculum for this qualification includes compulsory modules, fundamentals, and electives.

• Compulsory modules:
  • THL1501 - Introduction to Theory of Literature
  • THL1502 - Introduction to Literary Genres
  • GGH1501 - Discover the world: Introduction to Geography
  • GGH1502 - World Issues: A Geographical Perspective
• Fundamentals: Select 2 modules from a list of options, including language and communication modules.
• Electives: Select 2 modules from a list of options, including modules in African languages, archaeology, anthropology, and more.

Transitional Arrangements

Students will retain credit for replacement modules. From 2026, GGH3703 has been replaced with GGH3710.

Registration

To register for this qualification, applicants must have received an offer of placement from Unisa and have accepted the offer online. Re-registering students may register for the 2026 academic year once the registration period opens.
