Purpose Statement
The primary purpose of this qualification is to equip graduates with comprehensive knowledge, specific skills, applied competence, and the necessary attitudes within the fields associated with commerce and industry. This prepares them to be lifelong learners, employable workers or entrepreneurs, and contributors to society and the business community. Furthermore, it aims to produce functional managers at the middle management level across various sectors of the economy, and to facilitate an understanding of how to responsibly mobilize, utilize, and manage productive resources to effectively address the material needs of society in a globalized context. The qualification will be presented using both online and distance learning methods.
Admission Criteria
- Applicants: New applicants and Unisa students seeking admission to a new qualification may only register upon receiving and accepting an offer of placement from Unisa. Unisa reserves the right to not process or to cancel registrations if it is discovered that an applicant was incorrectly admitted to a qualification.
- Re-registering Students: May register for the 2026 academic year once the registration period opens. Those wishing to pursue a new qualification must apply online during the designated application period.
Module Selection Guidelines
Unisa qualifications require students to pass a specified number of NQF level credits within a timeframe to graduate.
- Co-requisites: If Module A is a co-requisite for Module B, both must be registered for simultaneously until Module A is completed.
- Pre-requisites: Passing Module A is required before registering for Module B.
- Credit Limit: Students may not register for more than the permitted maximum number of credits/modules per academic year (120 credits) or semester (60 credits). This limit excludes supplementary or aegrotat examinations and modules taken for non-degree purposes.
Weekly Study Commitment:
- Approximately 6 to 8 hours for semester modules.
- Approximately 4 to 6 hours for year modules.
