Rules and Purpose Statement

• The B degree Consumer Science (Food & Nutrition Stream) aims to train Consumer Scientists knowledgeable in nutrition.
• This qualification will not enable students to register with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a dietician or nutritionist.
• The purpose of the degree is to provide the student with knowledge, understanding, and competence in any of food, clothing and textiles, hospitality services, or nutrition, with business management to enable them to set up their own businesses, to work in the retail sector, or to act as advisors or facilitators.

Registration and Module Selection

• Applicants may only register if they have received an offer of placement from the university and have accepted the offer online.
• Re-registering students may register for the 2026 academic year once the registration period opens.
• Each university qualification is structured in such a way that students need to pass a certain number of NQF level credits within a certain amount of time in order to graduate.
• Students must consider their available time when choosing modules, as this will impact their academic performance.
