Rules

• Candidates must have access to a computer with a webcam and the internet.
• The qualification may be obtained on a piece-meal basis, but only students who pass all the modules in one academic year will be awarded a Certificate in the Theory of Accounting (CTA).

Purpose Statement

• The purpose of this qualification is to enable qualifying students to be certified as "Competent in the Theory of Accountancy", which is the admission requirement for part one of the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants' (SAICA's) Qualifying Examination.

Curriculum

• The curriculum for this qualification includes a range of modules, including Applied Auditing, Capstone in Applied Accounting Sciences, Applied Financial Accounting, Applied Management Accounting, and Applied Taxation.
• Students from Zimbabwe and Namibia must register for specific modules.

Registration

Who Can Register

• New applicants and Unisa students who applied for admission to a new qualification may only register if they have received an offer of placement from Unisa and have accepted the offer online.
• Re-registering students may register for the 2026 academic year once the registration period opens.

How to Choose Modules

• Each Unisa qualification is structured in such a way that students need to pass a certain number of NQF level credits within a certain amount of time in order to graduate.
• Students must consider their available time when choosing their modules, as this will impact their academic performance.
