- Purpose: The purpose of this module is to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of fundamental penology within Corrections. In this module, students will examine fundamental concepts of punishment, its historical evolution and its purpose with regard to revenge, retribution, protection, and rehabilitation. Students will also develop an in-depth understanding of how penal systems have evolved to meet changing societal needs and the balance between punitive measures and the rehabilitation of offenders. Finally, the module equips students with knowledge and skills to assess the effectiveness and ethical implications of various penal objectives and strategies.
