Program Details
One of the programs offered by the university is Mining Geology IIB (MGY2611), which is a diploma program at NQF level 6, worth 12 credits. The program is presented in English and is available online. The pre-requisite for this program is MGY1501.
Program Purpose
The purpose of the Mining Geology IIB program is to provide students with the necessary knowledge, skills, and competence required to depict planar geological structures on geological maps by means of structure contours. The program will also explore the three-dimensional nature of ore bodies and strata.
Program Outcomes
Upon completion of the program, students will be able to:
- Construct strike lines for various geological features
- Calculate various parameters such as overburden thickness, depth to intersection of boreholes, fault displacement (throw), gain or loss of ground due to faulting, cross-cut or raise length, decline distance, and other related structural geological aspects in mining applications
Program Structure
The program is presented online and is a year module. The program is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of mining geology and its applications in the mining industry.
