Electronic Communication Technology - ECM3701
This module is part of the Advanced Diploma program and is presented online in English. The purpose of this module is to provide students with a sound knowledge in a sub-field of Telecommunications, focusing on topics such as:
- Fundamentals of communications system
- Amplitude modulation and single-sideband modulation
- Amplitude modulation circuits
- Frequency modulation and circuits
- Analyse radio transmitters
- Communications receivers
- Antennas
- Transmission lines
- Radio wave propagation
- Data transmission
- The Telephone and its Applications
This module enables students to apply their knowledge and skills to the field of Electronics and Electronics Design, Power Electronics, and Telecommunications. The specific purpose of Electronic Communication Technology is designed to build the necessary knowledge, understanding, abilities, and skills required towards becoming a competent practicing Professional Engineering Technician.
Program Details
The Electronic Communication Technology module provides students with:
- Knowledge on Data communication systems and networking basics, Telephone networks and modems, Local area networks and Intranets, Wireless networks, Internet protocol, Transport protocols, Network security.
- The educational base required for registration as a Candidate and/or a Professional Engineering Technician with ECSA.
- Entry to programs such as Advanced Diploma or Bachelor of Engineering technology Honours Degree programs.
- Entry to an Advanced Diploma upon successful completion of a work-integrated learning component, or a combination of work-integrated learning and coursework, equivalent to at least 30 credits but not to exceed 120 credits.
Engineering students completing this qualification will demonstrate competence in all the Exit Level Outcomes contained in this module. This module is compulsory and core for the Diploma in Electrical Engineering.
