Program Overview


Master of Technology (MTech) in Structural Engineering

Overview

The MTech in Structural Engineering program includes advanced structural mechanics, finite element analysis, structural dynamics, structural reliability and optimization, reinforced and pre-stressed concrete, steel structures, design for wind and earthquake, tall buildings and towers, computer applications in structural engineering, etc.


Programme Educational Objectives (PEO's)

  • PEO1: Graduates will be able to analyze and design Civil engineering structures with due consideration to safety and economy.
  • PEO2: Graduates will be able to contribute towards research and innovation with available resources and tools to meet the contemporary societal challenges.
  • PEO3: Graduates will be sensitive towards ethical values and social responsibilities; display effective communication skills and inculcate lifelong learning.
  • PEO4: Graduates of the program will be proficient in technical skills to establish competent enterprise.

Programme Outcomes (PO'S)

  • PO1: An ability to independently carry out research /investigation and development work to solve practical problems.
  • PO2: An ability to write and present a substantial technical report/document.
  • PO3: Students should be able to demonstrate a degree of mastery over the area as per the specialization of the program. The mastery should be at a level higher than the requirements in the appropriate bachelor program.
  • PO4: Student should be able to analyze and design civil engineering structures and components utilizing computer simulation techniques and advanced engineering tools by integrating the structural engineering tenets to meet the present and future demands of society at large.
  • PO5: Student should be able to conduct systematic research, draw up appropriate experimental procedures and setup, analyse and interpret the research outcomes to further the frontiers of structural engineering domain.
  • PO6: Student should be able to apply modern structural engineering developments, including latest codal provisions through lifelong learning.

  • Private and public sector organizations engaged in the design and execution of major infrastructure projects such as roads and railways, bridges and power plants.
  • Companies like L&T, TCE, CCCL, etc.
