The PhD Program at Manipal Institute of Social Sciences, Humanities and Arts (MISHA) is designed to foster original and contemporary research in the humanities and social sciences. The program expects students to have a rigorous academic foundation in scholarship, writing, and structuring complex proposals. MISHA encourages intellectually ambitious, interdisciplinary, and pioneering dissertations.
Overview of the PhD Program
- The minimum duration for a full-time PhD is 3 years and 6 months from the date of admission.
- A Doctoral Advisory Committee (DAC) is formed for each student, consisting of a guide, a chair, and other specialist faculty members.
- Within two months of joining, a proposal must be presented before the DAC.
- Once passed, the proposal must be approved by the Manipal Academy of Higher Education Research Committee within six months.
- Every six months, PhD candidates must submit a report to the DAC.
- Failure to submit reports on time may result in the withholding of funding or cancellation of registration.
Eligibility Criteria
- Duration: 3 years and 6 months from the date of admission.
- Citizenship: Indian nationals can apply under the General category, while foreign nationals or Non-Resident Indians can apply under the Foreign/NRI Category.
- Qualification: A two-year Master's program in any discipline from a recognized university with a minimum of 55% marks in aggregate.
- Age: No minimum age requirement.
Admissions Process
- Admissions are based on marks obtained in the qualifying examination and a personal interview.
- Candidates can apply under either the General Category or the Foreign/NRI Category, but not both.
- A shortlist of candidates will be declared on the website, and selected candidates will be informed individually.
- Candidates called for an interview must bring all original and photocopy documents.
Merit List
- A merit list will be prepared based on marks obtained in the qualifying examination and the interview.
- Separate merit lists will be prepared for the General Category and the Foreign/NRI Category.
