Program Overview
Introduction to the Extended Cinematography Program
The …cole polytechnique and the ENS Louis-LumiŤre are launching a new Master of Science & Technology program in Extended Cinematography (XCin), a high-level{}{}{} alternating training course. This program aims to train specialists in image design capable of conceiving the tools of tomorrow for virtual production in audiovisual and cinema.
Program Description
The Extended Cinematography program offers a cutting-edge, multidisciplinary training that allows students to acquire in-depth scientific knowledge related to the virtual production sector. This knowledge is at the intersection of computer graphics, computer vision, augmented reality, and artificial intelligence. The program's ambition is to train "creative scientists" with a unique double competence: solid scientific and technical knowledge combined with practical mastery of emerging 3D and digital technologies.
Program Structure
- The program is a two-year course with alternating periods of three months in training and three months in a company.
- Students will be part of a unique class of 15 people and will receive courses exclusively in English.
- Throughout the program, students will work on a creative project of their choice to put into practice the skills and techniques acquired during the course.
Objectives and Outcomes
The Extended Cinematography program is designed to meet the needs of the evolving audiovisual, cinema, video game, and interactive media sectors. By the end of the program, students will be able to understand the challenges of creating a shoot, propose and design specific tools for the needs of future virtual production, and comprehend the stakes of the audiovisual ecosystem.
Collaboration and Funding
This new training is the result of the "La Grande Fabrique de l'image" project call from France 2030, operated by the Caisse des DťpŰts and the CNC. The project was initiated by the government with the goal of making France a leader in filming, image production, and training for cinema and audiovisual professions.
Program Leadership
The Extended Cinematography program is led by Pascal Guehl, research engineer at the …cole polytechnique, and Vincent Lowy, historian of cinema and director of the ENS Louis-LumiŤre.
