Foundation Studies

Overview

The Foundation Studies program is designed to provide students with the necessary skills and knowledge to succeed in their chosen undergraduate degree. The program is available at several locations, including Blacktown, Melbourne, North Sydney, and online.

Credit Points and Duration

The program consists of 80 credit points and can be completed in one year full-time or equivalent part-time.

• Melbourne (Domestic and International students)

• Online (Domestic students only)

Admission Requirements

Domestic Students

To be eligible for admission to the course, an applicant must:

1. Be 18 years or over by the census date of the first relevant study period of enrolment

International Students

To be eligible for admission to the course, an applicant must:

• Have completed the equivalent of year 11 (completion of senior high school in countries where this is not considered equivalent to an Australian year 12)

Completion Requirements

To qualify for course completion, students must pass:

1. 20 credit points from 2 specified units (Part A or Part B)
2. 10 credit points from 1 specified unit (Part C)
3. 50 credit points from 5 choice units (Part D)

Part A: Domestic Students - Specified Units

Complete exactly 2 of the following:

• FSDE002 Skills for Academic Success

Part B: International Students - Specified Units

Complete exactly 2 of the following:

• FSIE001 Essential English at University
• FSIE002 English for Academic Success

Part C: Specified Unit

Complete exactly 1 of the following:

• FSMU001 Maths for University

Part D: Choice Units

Complete exactly 5 of the following:

• FSRP001 Communication for Reflective Practice
• FSSC002 Biology
• FSBN001 Business Streams
• FSDL001 Digital Literacies
• FSLL001 English Language and Literature
• FSGS001 Global Studies
• FSHC001 Health Care in Australia
• FSCU001 Society and Culture
• FSPP001 Proficiency Test Preparation

Progression Requirements

Students are required to follow the pattern of unit enrolment set out in the relevant Course Enrolment Guide for their intended undergraduate degree, unless otherwise approved by the Program Manager.

Other Requirements

• Specified Units: FSDE001 and FSDE002 are for Domestic students only, while FSIE001 and FSIE002 are for International students only.
• Supplementary Assessment is not available in this course.
