Master of Leadership and Management in Healthcare

The Master of Leadership and Management in Healthcare is designed for health practitioners of any health-related discipline. This Master's degree will expand students' knowledge and skills in leadership and management in healthcare.

Course Overview

Graduates of the Master of Leadership and Management in Healthcare will be able to:

• Evaluate issues and challenges that the industry, healthcare professionals, and consumers of their services encounter
• Conceptualize new and creative approaches to leadership and management in healthcare to support service delivery in diverse healthcare settings
• Connect theory, practice, and research within leadership and management in healthcare
• Examine the ethical aspects of personal, social, cultural, environmental, and institutional changes within contemporary healthcare delivery and respond to such changes
• Reflect on options and opportunities to enhance professional practice in contemporary local, regional, and global healthcare contexts
• Contribute to values-based professional practice in dynamic and challenging environments

Professional Recognition

This course is not currently externally accredited. However, there has been discussion in relation to applying for accreditation with the Australian College of Health Services Management (ACHSM).

Our graduates have pursued careers in:

• Health services management and/or leadership
• Nurse unit management
• Humanitarian or social welfare organization management and/or leadership
• Public or private health-related facilities management and/or leadership

Course Details

To complete the Master of Leadership and Management in Healthcare, a student must complete 160 credit points (cp).

The course structure includes:

• Specified Leadership and Management in Healthcare Units
• Elective Units
• Specified Project Unit

Course Map

The course map outlines the units to be completed each term. There are two course maps available: one for students commencing in ACU Term 1 and one for students commencing in ACU Term 3.

Entry Requirements

To be eligible for admission to the Master of Leadership and Management in Healthcare, an applicant must have completed either:

• A Bachelor degree in a health discipline or equivalent
• The Graduate Certificate in Leadership and Management in Healthcare, or equivalent
• The Graduate Diploma in Leadership and Management in Healthcare, or equivalent

An applicant must also comply with the Admission to Coursework Programs Policy.

This course will provide a solid foundation for graduates who wish to pursue further study in the health industry.

Fees

The course costs are indicative and based on the tuition fee rates for a full-time student. A student's annual fee will vary depending on factors including the number of units studied per year, choice of major or specialization, and elective units.

Staff Profile

Ms. Theresa Harvey is a registered nurse, registered midwife, and academic. She is a senior lecturer and International Coordinator in the School of Nursing, Midwifery, and Paramedicine. Ms. Harvey has extensive and varied professional clinical experience in nursing and midwifery and is an experienced nurse educator in both clinical and academic settings.
