Program Overview


PhD in Contemporary Humanism

The PhD (in Contemporary Humanism) program aims to develop knowledge and critical skills in reading and interpreting the historical, cultural, literary, philosophical, and educational tradition in its making, and in its effects on the present, from the point of view of the category of "humanism".


Course Overview

The international and interdisciplinary structure of the program aims to provide an adequate context not only for an integrated "humanistic approach", but also for an integral education of students through a contamination of styles and methods of research and teaching, beyond disciplinary and national boundaries.

The program's common goals are to consolidate and improve:


  • Language skills in an international context
  • Public speaking skills
  • Writing skills at an academic level
  • Skills in design and management in a high-level cultural environment

Program Details

  • The PhD (in Contemporary Humanism) is a three (3) year Double-Badged Doctoral Degree.
  • The successful applicant will spend a research period of at least 12 (twelve) months at one of the four partner universities: Lumsa Università; Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (PUC); Institut Catholique de Paris (ICP); Universidade Católica Portuguesa (UCP); or Lyon Catholic University (UCLy).
  • The successful applicant will be enrolled as a doctoral student for the entire period of candidature at both ACU and the partner university, at which they will spend their research period of at least 12 (twelve) months.
  • The official language of the PhD (in Contemporary Humanism) is English.
  • The successful applicant will be awarded a stipend scholarship.
  • Domestic applicants will automatically be awarded a Research Training Program Fees Offset Scholarship and will be exempt from paying fees to the overseas partner university.

Applicants for the PhD (in Contemporary Humanism) must submit their application directly to ACU for consideration. As part of the application, include a statement of motivation relating to the contemporary humanism program.
