Bachelor of Education (Primary)
The Bachelor of Education (Primary) is a four-year full-time or equivalent part-time course that qualifies students to teach in primary schools. The course consists of 320 credit points and is offered at various locations, including Ballarat, Blacktown, Brisbane, Canberra, Melbourne, North Sydney, and Strathfield.
Admission Requirements
To be eligible for admission, applicants must meet the minimum ATAR requirement and demonstrate suitability for teaching. In addition, applicants in Victoria must comply with the Victorian Government's teacher registration requirements. All applicants must also meet the English Language Proficiency requirements as defined in the Admission to Coursework Programs Policy.
Course Structure
The course is divided into several parts:
- Part A: Education Studies units (60 credit points)
- Part B: Effective Teaching units (60 credit points)
- Part C: Primary Curriculum and Discipline Studies units (110 credit points)
- Part D: Primary Subject Specialisation and Primary Extension units (80 credit points)
- Part E: Core Curriculum units (10 credit points)
- Part F: ACER Literacy and Numeracy Test for Initial Teacher Education units (0 credit points)
- Part G: Elective unit (0 credit points, optional)
Part A: Education Studies Units
Students must complete exactly 60 credit points from the following units:
- EDES100 Understanding Learning and Teaching
- EDES101 Educational Thought
- EDES103 Understanding Learners and Their Contexts
- EDES104 Digital Cultures and Capabilities
- EDMA163 Exploring Mathematics and Numeracy

Part B: Effective Teaching Units
Students must complete exactly 60 credit points from the following units:

- EDET200 Effective Teaching 3: Engaging Learners and Managing Learning Environments
- EDET300 Effective Teaching 4: Students with Disability and Inclusive Education

- EDET401 Effective Teaching 6: Professional Engagement and Reflection
Part C: Primary Curriculum and Discipline Studies Units

Students must complete exactly 80 credit points from the following units, choosing one specialisation:
- English Specialisation units
- Health and Physical Education Specialisation units
- Indigenous Education Specialisation units
- Mathematics Specialisation units
- Science Specialisation units
- Religious Education Specialisation units
- Primary Extension units
Part E: Core Curriculum Units
Students must complete exactly 10 credit points from the following units:

- THCC200 Justice in the World: Catholic Social Ethics in Global Perspective
- THCC202 Sacred Land: Australian Indigenous Spiritualities and Catholic Thought
- TPCC201 Ecology and Justice

Part F: ACER Literacy and Numeracy Test for Initial Teacher Education Units
Students must complete the following units:
- LNTE100 LANTITE - Literacy Test for Initial Teacher Education Students
- LNTE101 LANTITE - Numeracy Test for Initial Teacher Education Students
Part G: Elective Units
Students may choose to complete the following optional unit:
- EDFX205 Educational Community Engagement Program

Completion Requirements
To qualify for the award, students must complete 320 credit points, including all required units and a minimum of 80 days of professional experience.
Exit Points
Students who do not complete the full course may be eligible for an exit award, including:
- Non-Award Certificate in Educational Studies
- Diploma in Educational Studies (Tertiary Preparation)
- Bachelor of Educational Studies
- Diploma in Liberal Arts
- Certificate in Liberal Arts
Progression Requirements
Students must pass the LANTITE tests before attempting the second placement unit, EDET200 Effective Teaching 3: Engaging Learners and Managing Learning Environments.
