Program Overview
Biotechnologia (Specialization in Bioinformatics), Bachelor's Degree (Full-time)
Characteristic of the Field
Biotechnology is an attractive, interdisciplinary field of study that encompasses a wide range of topics, from molecular biology to biochemistry, industrial biotechnology processes, bioinformatics, and biomedical data analysis. Students of this field begin their studies according to a common program for three faculties: the Faculty of Automatic Control, Electronics and Computer Science, the Faculty of Chemistry, and the Faculty of Environmental and Energy Engineering. After the second year of study, they have the opportunity to choose a specialization, among which bioinformatics is very popular, with classes conducted by highly qualified and experienced staff from the Faculty of Automatic Control, Electronics and Computer Science.
Student Profile
This field of study is intended for individuals interested in applying knowledge from the fields of chemistry and biology to control biotechnological processes in industry, and knowledge from the field of computer science in pharmacy and medicine. It is suitable for individuals who are looking for challenges and are interested in modern technologies, as well as those who, through their professional activities, want to improve the living conditions of society.
Admission Requirements
Bachelor's studies in this field do not require prior professional qualifications (except for the high school diploma).
Areas of Study
During their studies, students acquire knowledge in the following areas:
- Engineering of reactors, mass and heat transport
- Molecular biology and genetic engineering
- Modern methods of analyzing chemical compounds and biological samples
- Effective implementation of algorithms for processing large data sets and working with databases
- Design and operation of engineering facilities used in biotechnology
- Modeling of bioprocesses
- Programming of industrial controllers
- Advanced data analysis
Specializations
Individual thematic areas can be developed individually from the third year of study through the choice of field specializations. The Biotechnology field offers three specializations, one of which is Bioinformatics, conducted at the Faculty of Automatic Control, Electronics and Computer Science.
Graduate Profile
Graduates of this field of study can find employment in:
- Specialized laboratories, research institutes, medical centers
- Food, pharmaceutical, and chemical industries
- Environmental protection and circular economy
- Bioinformatics and IT centers
- Institutions involved in genetic research, medical diagnostics, and big data analysis
