Introduction to the Digital Dental Designer Program

The Digital Dental Designer program (DFT) is a new course offered by the Faculty of Dentistry at the University of Debrecen, starting from the 2024/2025 academic year. This program enables students to utilize the latest digital technologies in dentistry, supporting the work of dentists and dental technicians.

Program Structure

The DFT program is a 6-semester (BSc) full-time course, involving not only the Faculty of Dentistry but also four other faculties of the University of Debrecen: the Faculty of Engineering, the Faculty of Medicine, the Faculty of Informatics, and the Faculty of Economics.

Curriculum

The program is practice-oriented, with students learning traditional dental technical workflows in the first year. From the second year onwards, they gain practical experience in digital dental design, CAD/CAM solutions, and various software applications. Throughout the program, students acquire high-level technical, IT, and material science knowledge, in addition to learning about the design and manufacturing of dental prostheses, orthodontic and implant-prosthetic solutions using computer-aided technologies.

Facilities and Resources

The program utilizes a well-equipped classroom for computer-aided dental design and a separate, modern facility for manufacturing processes, equipped with CAD/CAM milling machines and 3D printers. Lecture and seminar rooms are equipped with computers and projectors, and internet access is available throughout. Students can access the internet via free Wi-Fi.

Graduation and Career Prospects

Upon completion of the program, graduates receive a diploma that qualifies them for independent activities. The program prepares students for careers in digital dental design, supporting the work of dentists and dental technicians with the latest digital technologies.
