Program Overview


Introduction to the Economy, Society and Lifestyle Subprogram

The Economy, Society, and Lifestyle Subprogram is part of the Doctoral School of History and Ethnography at the University of Debrecen. This subprogram has a long history of institutional research, dating back to the agrarian historical school established by Professor István Szabó.


History of the Subprogram

The subprogram was formally established in 1998 with the participation of several renowned experts, including Péter Gunst, Zsuzsa L. Nagy, and Lajos Timár, under the leadership of Péter Gunst. In 2008, the regional history research subprogram was merged into the economy and social history research subprogram, with Klára Papp as its leader until 2020. Since 2020, Levente Püski has taken over the leadership of the subprogram.


Professional Connections

The subprogram has built a wide range of professional connections with several educational institutions and scientific organizations in Hungary and internationally. These connections are still active and include collaborations with institutions such as the Transylvanian Museum Association in Cluj, the Eszterházy Károly Catholic University in Eger, and the Eötvös Loránd University Historical Institute in Budapest, among others.

The teaching staff of the subprogram includes members of the Doctoral School's core team, such as Attila Bárány, Klára Papp, Levente Püski, and Ferenc Velkey, as well as other instructors from the Doctoral School, including János Barta, Tamás Csíki, Imre Csiszár, Gábor Demeter, Attila Györkös, Annamária Jeney-Tóth, Róbert Kerepeszki, Ákos Szendrei, Zsolt Szilágyi, Timár Lajos, and Attila Tózsa-Rigó.
