Study Content

First Two Semesters

Students will acquire fundamental knowledge about bio-based value chains and networks. The program includes three bridging modules in the first semester to ensure all students have a solid foundation, regardless of their prior knowledge. Students will also participate in compulsory courses that provide the necessary knowledge and methods for an in-depth analysis of the bio-based economy.


Second Study Year

Students can design their own learning path by selecting from a variety of elective modules. The program offers profiles that provide orientation and can serve as career guides. Students can also choose to specialize in one of the seven profiles offered.


Fourth Semester

The final semester is dedicated to a research-intensive master's thesis, where students can deepen their knowledge and develop their own ideas in a focused research project.


Study Goals

As a "Hohenheimer Bioeconomist," graduates will be able to:


  • Plan, evaluate, and analyze the production and processing of renewable resources across sectors.
  • Promote key technologies and their economic use.
  • Consider the growing societal demands for bio-based products and production processes.
  • Organize the market launch of new bio-based products.
  • Coordinate the collaboration of various actors in the development of bio-based value chains.
  • Create appropriate institutional and political frameworks, such as standards for sustainability in raw material production or sustainable solutions that balance ecological, social, and economic requirements.

Requirements

  • Formal Requirements: Bachelor's degree (180 ECTS) with a profile in one of the following fields: agricultural sciences, natural sciences, or economic sciences.
  • English Language Proficiency: B2 level, proven by a test (e.g., TOEFL, IELTS, Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English, or Duolingo).
