Program Overview

Master's Degree in Engineering Grenoble INP - Ense3, Electrical Power Engineering (IEE)

Overview

The Master's Degree in Engineering Grenoble INP - Ense3, Electrical Power Engineering (IEE) is a National Master of Engineering Degree that awards a Master's degree upon completion. The program lasts for 3 years (6 semesters) and is available as both initial education and continuing education. It is located at the GRENOBLE Scientific Polygon.

Summary

In the modern world, electricity is a critical resource due to constraints of availability and performance. This program trains engineers to be competent in the design, innovation, and development of electrical components or systems, providing skills for leading installation projects, managing networks, and working in design or research teams.

Objectives

The objectives of this specialization program are to train engineers who can design, innovate, and develop electrical components or systems. It also aims to provide the necessary skills for engineers to lead installation projects, manage networks, or work as part of a design or research team, mainly in the economic sectors of energy, transport, and civil engineering.

Training Partners

  • G2Elab
  • GIPSA-lab

Companies

  • Alstom
  • Areva
  • Cegelec
  • EDF
  • Forclum
  • Gaz de France
  • GEG
  • Ineo
  • MGE/UPS
  • PSA
  • Renault
  • RTE
  • Schneider Electric
  • Suez
  • VINCI Energies

Admission

The program is open to students with a Bac + 2, Bac + 3, or Bac + 4 background. Admission into Year 1 requires completion of two years of preparatory courses or an undergraduate degree from a university. Admission into Year 2 requires a Bachelor of Science or Engineering in Electrical Engineering and a minimum level of English proficiency (TOEFL 550 or equivalent).

Program

The program duration is 3 years (6 semesters), with internships available abroad.

1st Year

The first year covers four areas of knowledge:

  • Power electronics, conversion, and transformation of electrical energy, electrical networks, materials for electrical engineering
  • Simulation and design methods for electrical components, devices, and systems
  • Control, signal processing, scientific and industrial computing
  • Business sciences and personal development

2nd Year

The second year offers three professional specialties:

  • Operation of electrical networks (Production, Transport, and Distribution of electrical energy): PTD2E
  • Power Electronics and Energy Conversion (Power Electronics Components, converters, and their design, control, and environment constraints): EPTE
  • Embedded electrical systems and transport (energy conversion systems, monitoring, and diagnosis, embedded electrical systems): S2ET

3rd Year

The third year includes an elective semester that can be completed in one of two cross-disciplinary programs: IPEM (Industrial Processes & Environmental Management) or MANINTEC (Management, Innovation, Technologies). The final semester is dedicated to the Final Project (Master Thesis), which can be completed overseas or in France, in a research laboratory or industry.

International

The language of instruction is French, and internships abroad are available. The program is part of the Erasmus areas in Electrical Engineering.

Prospects

Graduates of this program are expected to be competent in designing, innovating, and developing electrical components or systems. They will have the skills required for engineers when leading installation projects, managing networks, as part of a design or research team, or as a business engineer, mainly in the economic sectors of energy, transport, and civil engineering.

Further Learning Opportunities

Year 3 students planning to pursue a PhD can earn a dual degree with another Master's program relevant to their first major within the Grenoble University system. An internship in France or another country is required.
