Program Overview

Finance Program at Villanova University

The Finance program at Villanova University is designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to make sound financial decisions in today's complex business environment. As a finance major, students will learn finance theory alongside technology, quantitative methods, and communication, while also developing an understanding of global and ethical issues.

Earning a Major

To earn a major in Finance, students must complete the core curriculum and the business curriculum, along with three required finance courses and three finance elective courses (excluding FIN 3350, FIN 3360, and FIN 3470).

Earning a Minor

To earn a minor in Finance, students must complete the core curriculum and business curriculum, plus their major requirements, along with three required finance courses. Note that for Class 2025 and beyond, all VSB minors, including the FIN minor, require three unique courses to complete the minor requirements.

Applied Quantitative Finance Concentration

The Applied Quantitative Finance Concentration is a rigorous program that combines finance with STEM fields, relying heavily on models and complex analysis. Students interested in this concentration should be quantitatively inclined, as the curriculum will be challenging and incorporate higher-level courses in Math, Statistics, Analytics, and Computer Science. When combined with a major in Finance, this concentration will prepare students to become well-rounded and well-versed in all areas of finance.

  • Key features of the Applied Quantitative Finance Concentration:
    • Requires specific admission following a student's first year at Villanova
    • Requires careful planning with an advisor to ensure completion within a normal course load
    • Curated and enhanced to meet the current and future needs of employers
    • Prepares students to become not only a "quant" but a quant who is well-rounded and well-versed in all areas of finance
