Paralegal Certificate Program

The Paralegal Certificate program is designed to educate qualified individuals in the theory and philosophy of the law and the ethics of legal practice. Participants learn the necessary practical skills to enable them to effectively assist lawyers in both the private and public sectors, by the general principles of ethics as defined by the American Bar Association (ABA), to extend the competent and effective delivery of legal services in our society.

Program Structure

This program is offered in a full-time day program (one semester), a full-time hybrid day program (one semester), or a part-time fully online evening setting (8-10 months).

Requirements

The program requires the completion of the following courses:

• PRLG 1020: Introduction to Paralegal Profession and Principles (18 clock hours)
• PRLG 1120: Legal Research (18 clock hours)
• PRLG 1220: Civil Procedure and Litigation (18 clock hours)
• PRLG 1320: Legal Writing (18 clock hours)
• PRLG 1420: Business Organizations (18 clock hours)
• PRLG 1520: Contract Law (18 clock hours)
• PRLG 1620: Paralegal Office Coordination (18 clock hours)
• PRLG 1720: Family Law (18 clock hours)
• PRLG 1820: Estates & Trusts (18 clock hours)
• PRLG 1920: Torts and Personal Injury Law (18 clock hours)
• PRLG 2020: Criminal Law (18 clock hours)
• PRLG 2120: Intellectual Property Law (18 clock hours)
• PRLG 2220: Real Estate Law (18 clock hours)
